Getting Around

The North Fork retains a rural character and has open spaces between destinations. The North Fork is only about 25 miles long and 4 miles wide. Whether you come out by car or train or bus or ferry, you will find that most destinations are only a short distance away.

Two-mile Radius

There are 6 wineries, two restaurants and a museum within a radius of about 2 miles. If you come out by public transportation and are a vigorous walker, you should be able to get to enough places without a car.

Bikes and Cars

We have two bicycles and you may borrow these at your own risk. Particularly during season the roads are busy and you must walk and bike with appropriate caution.

You may rent a car from Hertz in Cutchogue or from Enterprise in Riverhead. Be sure to contact these businesses before you come out here so that their business hours do not give you a surprise.

Simple Pleasures

Once you’re here you might want to indulge in some simple pleasures. Relaxing in a hammock under a shady maple tree, sipping lemonade in a rocking chair on the porch, a friendly game of horse shoes or croquet on the lawn, bird watching, star-gazing or sitting in front of a fireplace on a Winter's Eve, this is what the Red Barn B&B is all about!

Things To Do

You can do as little as you choose or you can: tour the North Fork wineries, do a little antiquing, visit the galleries and museums, explore our beaches and parks, do a little shopping, play some golf, go fishing, indulge in some pampering at a spa, take a cruise, rent a kayak or a bike, hike our trails, shop for a home or plan your wedding!

Taxis

We do have taxi service on the North Fork but we advise you to call ahead and ask about the fare - it could cost $50 to go from Jamesport to Greenport. Taxi service includes: Island Cab Company 631-765-5336, Moonlight Classic (631-727-5800), and Four Ones (631-728-0050.

Local Bus

Suffolk County provides bus service on the North and South Forks. You will need exact change and we suggest that you examine the schedule carefully for the S92 line.
